Presently we have 4 employees that manage over 250 personal computers and 9 servers. These personal computers are spread over various buildings: Courthouse, Courthouse Annex, Sheriff’s Dept, EMA Building, Animal Regulation, and Highway Dept. (We also assist installing software at the Juvenile Detention Center and trouble shooting at the Nursing Home.) Technology Services is responsible for researching, ordering and installing personal computers, laptops, printers, software, network equipment, etc. We are then responsible for maintaining the equipment, researching problems, fixing viruses and repairing the equipment as needed. As well as maintaining equipment within each department, we are also responsible for the network connectivity between the departments and the various buildings (Courthouse, Annex, Sheriff’s Dept and EMA buildings). Even though we have expanded our duties to include personal computers and networks, we continue to maintain the IBM System which has been upgraded to an IBM I-Series server. The IBM I-Series server contains the County’s Financial Accounting System, the County’s Property Tax System, Coroner Information System, County Clerk Economic Interest System, EMA Tier II Billing System, and the County’s Inventory System. With the exception of the Financial Accounting System, the Technology Services Department is responsible for the programming and maintenance of all the programs on the IBM System I-Series. The County’s Property Tax System requires a great deal of attention to maintain the programs and assist the tax department’s with their duties, including printing the collector books, assessor books and printing over 51,000 property tax bills.
As part of our operation we maintain a growing
GIS (Geographic Information System) that integrates
primarily with the Tax Cycle System but is also used for
basically all aspects of County government (as well as
outside vendors and the general public). Working with
Bruce Harris, we provide a link to allow web access for
parcel and map data.
Additionally, we maintain the County’s e-mail system for
over 300 employees, maintain and update the County’s web
pages and perform many graphic arts duties (design and
print business cards, create data entry forms, and
prepare and print the County’s yearly budget).
Technology Services
also maintains the video recording system for the
Courthouse Annex and the EMA departments.
This
consists of installing several cameras placed throughout
the two buildings and keeping the recordings of each
camera for a period of time. Over
the years we have worked closely with County departments
to assist them in performing their required duties as
well as assisting in various projects. Our services, for the most part are offered free of charge to all Vermilion County government offices. Please review our SERVICES page to get an idea of the wide range of services we provide.
